Rumors, announcement, and then shelved again: The news surrounding the series on Jedi Master Obi-Wan Kenobi represent a real roller coaster of emotions for Star Wars fans. But now there is finally good news again. Because Ewan McGregor, who last embodied Obi-Wan in 2005, confirms that the filming has a start date. He'll return to the galaxy far, far away in March 2021. But we also know that as long as the Corona pandemic cripples industries worldwide, the dates for movies and series aren't set in stone. Still, there's already some early info on the series, which will be set after the prequels.
More on Corona and movies:
Will cinemas perish from the pandemic? The Obi-Wan series will take place eight years after Revenge of the Sith, in which the Jedi Master went into exile on Tatooine, primarily to keep an eye on Luke Skywalker growing up. The film is directed solely by Deborah Chow
, for whom Star Wars is familiar territory: She's already been in the director's chair for two episodes of The Mandalorian. Aside from McGregor, who will be returning to a role from the Star Wars films is currently unknown - but as soon as there's more info, we'll let you know.Want to get your hands on Disney+? As the first Star Wars series, Obi-Wan will offer a protagonist who has already portrayed one of the main roles in the films. The Mandalorian, for example, will rely on new characters, with the spin-off series to spin-off Rogue One also bringing back Diego Luna as Cassian Andor. But since that Star Wars production hasn't even started filming yet, we'll probably get to see Obi-Wan first.
