Star Wars: Hayden Christensen to return as Darth Vader in Obi-Wan Kenobi series

Good news for fans of Hayden Christensen! The actor is returning after a long hiatus (15 years, crazy!) in the upcoming Disney Plus series Obi-Wan Kenobi as Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader. Sure, we can't imagine the plot of the series starring legendary Jedi Master Obi-Wan without his apprentice and eventual rival.

Kathleen Kennedy (Lucasfilm) dropped a real news bombshell at the Disney Investor Day Star Wars panel, announcing the return of Hayden Christensen to the Star Wars franchise. Christensen himself was last seen in Revenge of the Sith. Later, Hayden merely took on several voice acting roles and he was subsequently added to the original Star Wars trilogy as a Force ghost.

One important piece of info up front: the Disney Plus series of Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place ten years after Revenge of the Sith. The Republic is history and the wounds on both sides are fresh. In the series, we'll likely learn more about the consequences of Order 66 for the Jedi Order. That sounds like an exciting plot to me!

Writer and director Deborah Chow (she's directed a few episodes of The Mandalorian) talks about the Kenobi series, "We couldn't tell the story of Obi-Wan without Darth Vader. We're definitely going to see Obi-Wan and Darth Vader meet again."

"It was an incredible experience playing Anakin Skywalker," Christensen (source: StarWars.com) later adds. "Of course, the last time we saw Anakin and Obi-Wan they were not on good terms. I'm excited to see what a great director like Deborah Chow will pull out of the hat for us. I'm looking forward to working with Ewan McGregor (portraying Obi-Wan in the second Star Wars trilogy) again. It feels good to be back!"

The filming of Obi-Wan Kenobi has already started. In an interview, Ewan McGregor revealed that he already got to wear his classic Obi-Wan costume on the set of The Mandalorian. If and which role the Jedi will play in The Mandalorian remains a secret for now. In the coming years we can expect several Star Wars series with legends like Ahsoka Tano, Lando and many other famous characters from the popular sci-fi universe.
