On December 19, 2019, it was that time again in the world of Star Wars: a trilogy had its finale. The rise of Skywalker brought an end to the new film series that had begun with The Force Awakens. That was six months ago now, and many fans have probably been looking to the future since leaving the theater: what are the next projects now that the Skywalker saga has ended? While looking into the crystal ball raises big questions about the next movies, there's already more solid info on series.
With much fanfare, Disney executives have made it clear that the story of the first nine installments is truly meant to be complete. Accordingly, we can expect new stories in the same galaxy. However, projects of this kind are not under a good star: The big announced trilogy of the Game of Thrones-makers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss has died, for example. The same is apparently true for Episode 8 director Rian Johnson's trilogy, which hasn't been heard from in ages.
Freshly announced for this is an upcoming film from Taika Waititi, who is known for Thor: Ragnarok, Jojo Rabbit and 5 Room Kitchen Coffin. Waititi has already directed the acclaimed Star Wars series The Mandalorian, which is why the odds are in his favor that he can deliver something worth seeing in a film as well. For now, though, the New Zealander is busy with Thor 4: Love and Thunder, which isn't even scheduled to hit theaters until 2022. So we can't expect a Waititi film in the Star Wars cosmos before 2022. So it remains to be seen whether someone will jump ship until the project is finished. The hit series The Mandalorian is now also completely available in Germany and inspires viewers. Also at Disney, the confidence is great, because directly after the first season, the sequel was filmed directly. Since the work was completed before the restrictions of the Corona pandemic, the second season of The Mandalorian can start in October 2020.

In addition, a series around Obi-Wan Kenobi is in the works, which is delayed due to a new script, but entices, for example, that Ewan McGregor will once again take on the role of the Jedi Master. Also set in the time before the Luke Skywalker trilogy is a project that will be dedicated to the rebel Cassian Andor from Rogue One. The character will once again be played by Diego Luga. Writer Tony Gilroy, who worked on the reshoots of Rogue One, is serving as showrunner.
Rebel agent Kassian Andor from Rogue One will become the protagonist in an upcoming Star Wars series.
