New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe releases today on Switch.
Nintendo today released New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe for Switch and includes New Super Luigi U.
Like the Wii U version before it, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe features the ability to play with up to four other people. Each player can take on the role of a specific character and co-op through 164 levels.
Unlike the Wii U version, there are no two versions of Toad available. The original featured a yellow and blue Toad, meaning you could have two Toads on your multiplayer team. Blue Toad is technically still available to play, but only as a blue skin for the yellow Toad.
To play as a blue Toad, you will need to press and hold the L button while you have a highlighted Toad.
This means that there can no longer be two Toads on one team, as Polygon notes.
Instead, players taking part in multiplayer will have to choose between Mario, Luigi, Toad, or newcomers Toadette and Nabbit. The latter two are seen by Nintendo as ideal characters for "younger or less experienced players." This is because Toadette and Nabbit offer extra help during gameplay.
When Toadette picks up Super Crown, she transforms into Peachette and can double-jump, floating slowly while free-falling and lifting back up when she falls into a pit. When playing as Nabbit (the antagonist that Toad defeated in the original), you won't get hurt by enemies and can earn extra 1UPs at the end of stages.
Nabbit became a playable character in New Super Luigi U, which was released as DLC for New Super Mario Bros. U in 2013, before becoming a standalone title.
Valve has made a major update to the way the game store pages on Steam display DLC. It's no secret...
