WoW Shadowlands: Blizzard introduces pact system (election, campaign, sanctum)

In the upcoming WoW: Shadowlands adventure, the Shadowlands Pacts will play a crucial role. In a preview article on the official World of Warcraft website, the Blizzard developers recently presented this pact system in detail. Whether it's election, campaign, sanctuary, or the soul bond of your pact, you can find out everything you need to know below.

In Shadowlands, players can experience countless adventures in four new zones ruled by ancient, powerful pacts. Once players reach level 60, they can join one of these pacts and explore the World of Warcraft beyond with its many secrets and adventures.

Although each pact offers its unique facets, all pacts have some basic systems in common.

Choosing a Pact

Note: Players who like to play with more than one character can, after reaching the maximum level and choosing a Pact with their first character, also immediately choose a Pact for each additional character once they reach the Shadowlands.Over the course of Shadowlands, your adventures will take you to all four of the new zones ruled by the Pacts.Along the way, you'll learn what each pact stands for and what powers it offers. Once you have completed the campaign story and reached the maximum level, you can accept a quest in Oribos to choose the pact you want to belong to and continue your journey as a member of.

  • Kyrians: The Kyrians are steadfast guardians of the afterlife who carry the souls of the dead to the Shadowlands. They have dedicated their hearts and souls to the service, and only those who prove themselves worthy may join their ranks.
  • Necrolords: Among the Necrolords, strength is rewarded and weakness is eradicated. The souls of the ambitious and combative are formed into an immortal army charged with the defense of the Shadowlands.
  • Night Fae: The Night Fae take care of fallen nature spirits who slumber in the quiet forest. Souls with a deep connection to nature may join their quest to one day return the regenerated spirits to the eternal cycle.
  • Venthyr: The Venthyr are aristocratic overseers of souls burdened with excessive pride and iniquity. They guide afflicted souls along the hard path of penance, harvesting anima to preserve the strength of their realm.

Choosing a pact is a momentous decision and should not be taken lightly. It is possible to change pacts, but after such a betrayal, pacts will not readily accept you again. Loyalty, on the other hand, is rewarded with a lot of benefits, including access to a unique pact campaign, soul ties, a pact sanctuary and much more.

The Pact Campaign

After choosing a pact, you will gain access to a unique pact campaign that details the history of the chosen pact. Players start by building their respective Pact sanctuary and gaining access to initial services.

Then your Pact sends you out into the world to help them with various tasks and collect Anima. By progressing in the campaign and completing tasks, you'll earn reputation.

The reputation of your pact

Note: Should you fall behind or work to level up another character, you can earn additional reputation until you reach your current maximum level by playing long-term content, including dungeons, raids, PvP, and vocations. As you progress in your pact's story, your reputation grows. This is how you increase the trust your character enjoys within their pact. You earn reputation by performing honorable deeds in the pact campaign, returning Anima to the Sanctum, and rescuing souls from the Maw

.

Increasing reputation grants certain rewards at each reputation level, including:

  • unlocking a new tier of power for a Soul Band character.
  • increasing the item level of items you obtain through world quests
  • Increasing the maximum potential level of your Sanctum's features.
  • Earning legendary recipes for the Runecutter in Torghast
  • Earn unique cosmetic pact items, such as mounts, pets, a title, transmogrifications for back ornaments, and transmogrification armor

Each week you can pick up two quests in your sanctum. Each of these quests grants one level of prestige.

  • The first quest involves feeding a certain amount of anima into the Sanctum's reservoir.
  • The second weekly quest sends you into the Maw to rescue souls from the clutches of the Dungeon Master.

Each completed chapter of the Pact campaign grants an additional reputation level. So these are the quests you should focus on.

The Pact Sanctums

Each pact provides its members with a unique sanctum. It represents the seat of the Pact's power and the home of many key characters that you will work with over the course of the Pact campaign. As you progress through your adventures in the Shadowlands, you can upgrade the various features of the Sanctum. Each sanctum has five basic features. Four of them apply to all pacts, but the fifth feature is unique to each pact.

Here you can also feed your collected anima into the pact's reservoir, accept new quests, and more.

These are the four features common to all pact's sankums

:
  • Adventure: you can put your tactical skills to the test by sending your allies into the Shadowlands and helping your chosen pact by passing its unique challenges. In doing so, you must strategically decide the best way to approach these combat puzzles, who to send into battle, and how to use their abilities to win.
  • Transportation Network: Players can enter a zone-specific travel network in their Sanctum. These travel networks are unique to each pact.
  • Animal Rider: Players can unlock additional content within the zone by investing Anima into activating a specific area.
  • Soulbonds: In your Sanctum, you will encounter three key members of your pact. You can select one of these members to form a soul bond with. Making soul ties allows you to gain access to bonuses that boost your abilities, so you can effectively fight any enemies that stand in your way.

The Soul Bonds

Once a player has chosen a pact, this unlocks the ability to form a soul bond with one of several selected characters from the pact. These characters then share their special powers with the player in the form of a variety of bonuses. The bond with a character can be changed within a resting area or with the help of a clear mind tome. Changing the properties of soul ties, on the other hand, is done at the Forge of the Tie in the Pact Sanctum. During the course of the Pact campaign, you can unlock an additional soul band.
Once a player has chosen a pact, this unlocks the ability to make a soul bond with one of several selected characters in the pact. Source: Blizzard After choosing a soul band, you will get access to the corresponding soul band tree. This contains two types of nodes: Soulband Bonuses and Sockets for Mediums. The bonuses represent passive abilities and buffs based on the corresponding soulband character, and media sockets allow players to further customize their own abilities.

Media for Soul Band Trees

Mediums are new items that players can obtain and add to their soulband trees to enhance their class and pact abilities, as long as they are associated with the corresponding character. There are three types of mediums: potency (damage/healing), resistance (survivability), and finesse (strategic utility). Each medium can only be inserted into a socket of the appropriate type.

Class abilities and signature abilities

Each pact grants players who join it at max level access to unique class abilities and signature abilities. As you advance in levels on your first journey through each of their realms, you will be able to try out the abilities of the pacts for yourself before finally deciding which pact to pledge allegiance to.

  • Signature abilities are available to all players who join the pact, regardless of class, race, or specialization. This ability allows you to explore and interact with the world in new ways. It also provides you with a unique tool to overcome the challenges of the Shadowlands.
  • The class abilities of the pacts are additional gameplay options designed for combat and are thematically tailored to each pact. Each pact offers one ability for each class.
