In WoW Shadowlands, once you reach the new maximum level of 60 and have explored the first four zones, you can sign up with a pact. Each pact offers its champions a base ability, a class-specific ability, mounts and cosmetic rewards that can be unlocked through an epic campaign as well as other activities over time. This alliance also grants you access to a pact sanctum, a sort of class hall that is only open to players who have made a pact with its rulers. You'll be able to switch pacts later on, but the price will be high. There are four different pacts:
- The Kyrians of Bastion - angelic beings who humbly serve their order and allow the ascension of souls sent by the Arbiter.
- The Necrolords of Maldraxxus - An army of lichs, warlords, and spies who defend the Shadowlands.
- The Night Fae of Ardenwald - Guardians of nature who protect all beings in the cycle of life and death.
- The Venthyr of Revendreth - vampire beings who punish the sinful souls sent by the Arbiter to rehabilitate them.
In the beta, which started on July 15, you can directly enter the endgame via the "Covenant Choice" character template and immediately start choosing your pact. You will go through the following steps until the first campaign quest:
- Once you arrive in Oribos, you'll go to the NPC Tal'Inara, who will ask you to talk to the representatives of the four alliances. They will tell you what class and signature abilities you will get if you decide to join, and will also give you a preview of the mounts and armor sets of the pact.
- After that, you choose your pact from the desired representative, for example, General Draven for the Venthyr, and go to the specified destination in the pact zone.
- For the Venthyr, for example, Prince Renathal in the Pact Sanctum in Fall of Man is your next port of call. Here you will immediately receive the quest for activating the signature ability 'Shadow Gate', which you activate after swearing an oath of allegiance with various NPCs on site.
- During a subsequent ritual, you will then receive your class-specific pact ability, for example 'Impending Catastrophe' as a Warlock.
- Another ritual follows: Soul Binding. Here you form a soul bond with one of several selected characters from the pact, for example Nadjia Mistblade among the Venthyr. These characters then share their special powers with you in the form of a variety of bonuses (see the image gallery below).
- In the following quest, you will then use the scout card for the first time. Tactician Sakaa of the Venthyr lets you start the first companion mission here, which you already know from Battle for Azeroth. The mission interface is more complex than before: in the slots of the upper half of the interface you can see the enemies and in the lower slots you can use your companions. There is even a real combat log after completing the mission, which gives a detailed account of all the actions of the enemies and companions.
- Last but not least, you will receive your first campaign and normal quests from various NPCs in the Pact Sanctuary. After completing the campaign, you will be rewarded with a special mount and the Pact's transmogset.
In the following picture gallery you can see all the steps described above in detail on screenshots. The texts are still partly in German and partly in English because of the beta. Our hero is a worgen warlock who joins the Venythr.
