WoW expansions traditionally end with a raid in which we take down a head villain. This one has more or less earned a good thrashing during the previous months. The emphasis is on more or less: because the end of Battle for Azeroth and the fight against N'Zoth as the final boss disappointed many players. We therefore asked ourselves which final boss of a WoW expansion we actually liked best.
Karsten's opinion: For me, Arthas is the best villain the Warcraft universe has seen so far
.
Certainly also because I was able to follow his development since the fantastic Warcraft 3. But also because he was built up very well in WotLK as the new chief villain, was omnipresent in Northrend and dangled there like a sword of Damocles over the heads of the heroes. His appearance at the Wrath Gate is, for me, one of the most iconic moments in gaming history.
The cherry on top, however, was clearly the impressive and crispy final battle in Icecrown Citadel. The desecration quickly spreading all over the platform here, the Valkyren kidnapping the players there, the Arthas spreading thick bells there: The Lich King only went down in the heroic version when the players were strengthened with the useful buff Wrynn's Strength or Hellscream War Hymn. The effect increased health, healing cast, and damage dealt by five percent per stack. But even with the boost, the finale of WotLK was no chill stroll in the park. The reward at the end was a goosebump sequence. Great cinema! And so incredibly much better than what Blizzard has now presented us with in Battle for Azeroth ..
.Sebastian's opinion: There are some good bosses, both thematically and in terms of boss design. But addon final bosses?!Phew, there are hardly any good ones from my point of view. The only one that really comes into question is the Lich King. Technically, Halion came after that, but you can't count him as an addon boss. Apart from his good and rich lore from the original Warcraft story, Arthas was thematically well built up in WotLK, was almost omnipresent in everything you did in Northrend and, unlike many other bosses in the recent WoW past (Rastakhan, Azshara, N'Zoth), got a worthy ending and the fight was simply epic, especially in heroic mode.
Sara's opinion: I actually wanted to bring a bit more diversity into this article by choosing a boss other than Arthas - but I can't. Arthas is and remains for me the best final boss of an addon in World of Warcraft, (buy now 14,99 € ) even if his appearances in Wrath of the Lich King sometimes displayed a slight slapstick character ("Haha, next time I'll get you").
Maybe Arthas could actually build on the Warcraft III bonus and on his fame within the WoW community. But for me, Arthas as Lich King is remembered in its entirety as a final boss worthy of an addon, and one that Blizzard did an excellent job of building up over the entire duration of the expansion - in the end, everyone of us wanted to finally punch the guy in the face (I'm just saying: Wrathgate).
